I’m leaving my post at City Weekend for a Senior Editor role at Newsweek Select. Newsweek Select is the monthly Chinese version of the American magazine. I’ll be scouting and working with Chinese writers on stories, editing and translating their work for the New York office and then rechecking and implementing New York’s edits into the final Chinese versions. I’ll also be doing some writing and reporting of my own. It’s going to be incredibly challenging and stimulating work, and I am anxious to get started. We’re trying to beef up our local content by developing more full-length feature ideas and by lacing the stories written abroad with Chinese examples and quotes.
I’m going to really miss some of my co-workers at City Weekend — particularly the lovely Courtney Woo and the winsome Li Yiyang. It was an incredibly intense process there — long hours with tough budget restraints and more multi-tasking than I ever previously imagined myself capable of — but it was also rewarding beyond measure.
Other changes include a move from the city’s outer limits (also known as the retirement community of East China Normal University) to the city center, not far from Xintiandi — as unlikely as I am to be found hanging out anywhere in that vicinity except for at Figaro, which is about the least pretentious coffee shop in town. My new apartment is two levels of an old-style house in the same compound that the famous opera singer Meilan Fang once lived. This historical trivia guarantees the building’s immunity from the wrecking ball, unlike the unfortunate fate of the old housing across the street, which is being slowly leveled to make way for the new number 7 line metro.
I move in December 1. The new job begins January 2.
Hi,Megan!Wish you GOOD LUCK at Newsweek Select!!!Remember, you’re the best:)
