We did a reviews off gay bars and Lala’s in a class by Sun Zhong-xin. It was rather difficult to get close up information. But Meg, Very good writing on this. If I never leave China, I think searching on a search engine might not even find it easily. :)

It’s great that there are gay bars and clubs in Shanghai, but are there any gay friendly hotels for vistors to stay in? Also 2008 is Olympics year so whre can lgbt visitors atay to go to the games? Any suggestions please, so we can tell others.

Best bars in Shanghai are EDDYS for it’s dependable crowd, FRANGIPANI for it’s sophistication and PINKHOME for it’s cool music, interior design and amazing sound system. Club Deep is completely over-rated.

shanghai studio is my favourite gay bar here. i took my mum and aunt there last night.

perhaps there will be civil unions in china by 2017?

China has no bullshit Christian church as a strong opposition power against gay marriage. Thanks to the invasion of western culture, the traditional values of confucianism, which values the perpetuation of the family tree, does not play much on the young chinese people.So China will foster a culture more tolerant of the gay communities.

Shanghai is hipper than the States now. That is how sad America has become. Apparently America has yet to get over its homophobia. The 08 election is just around the corner, you know the Republicans will raise the issue of same sex marriage again.

Oh well, here is America for you, a red herring culture that is always scared by the wrong thing.!!!

I’d really like some info. on gay life in Shanghai. I’m heading over there soon to teach. Will I find myself alone? Are there many gay clubs? Is there an English enclave large enough that I won’t feel isolated. I’d really like to hear from you and make sure that I’m making the right decision in going to a gay friendly and generally fun city.

Great overview article of the gay scene in the big cities now! However, as a gay Chinese, I’m kinda tired by the constant mentioning of family and social pressure so repetitively in the media (in general; by no means targeting you Megan). Let’s hope it’ll be cliche and passe soon!
